Narrative | Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Pro Tools & Nuke

Getaway is a ~30 minute short film that follows two frat brothers' final night together as they intersect with a trio of struggling college students on the run after stealing a cocaine rat from a university lab. While navigating unresolved feelings, substance abuse, and their purpose in life, the two groups' paths converge with a fatal accident.

EDITOR’S NOTE

This was the largest narrative project I have worked on and had a ton of moving parts. The film was originally intended to be 10-15 minutes long, but once we put together a line cut realized that we would need more time to do the story justice. The final run time is just under 30 minutes.

Editing 2 separate story lines required careful attention to detail and logical pacing - spending too much time with one story would overshadow the other, so carefully selecting the pieces of each that needed to be highlighted was important.

Since the film also ended up being so long, it was crucial that only the most necessary moments were left in. This meant lots of communication with the director after new cuts to determine what to keep.

Project organization was also vital with this film. Once wrapped, we had days worth of footage to sort through, so I ensured my project bins were set up accurately and efficiently to keep the editing process moving forward. Additionally, I also led the sound team and completed all of the VFX myself, which meant setting myself up for success in those departments while editing, which allowed me to seamlessly continue my work once picture locked.
